JANUARY 20, 1959 ~ SEPTEMBER 22, 2018 (AGE 59)

Calvin Lee Leavens, 59, of Newton died on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at his home. A celebration of life will be held from 4-7 p.m., Saturday, October 6, a the Elks Lodge in Newton. Memorials to Calvin’s family may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Calvin, the son of Don and Judith C. (Funk) Leavens, was born on January 20, 1959 in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1977. Calvin had worked at Donaldson’s in Grinnell for over 20 years and prior to that at Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg. He loved golfing and was a member of the Westwood Golf Course. He also enjoyed a good game of cribbage. Calvin was good guy and a man of few words.

Those left to honor his memory are his mother, Judith C. Leavens of Newton; siblings, Wane (Sherri) Leavens, Rusty Leavens, Lennie Leavens (Teresa Shaw), and Rod Leavens, all of Newton; his son, Tanner Mortenson and his family of Newton; father, Don (Lynn) Leavens of Camanche; half-brother, Bart (Tami) Leavens of Clinton; aunts and uncles, Janet Funk, John Porter, and Richard (Saundra) Funk; nieces and nephews, Jacob Leavens, Jon (Jevy) Terrell, Carah Leavens, Macee Smith-Leavens (Sam Tracy), and Spencer Johnston; great-nieces and nephews, Liam, Etti, Lexy, Kendrick, and Saybree and step-siblings, Brian Woods, Shelly Bierman, and Trisha Dash.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; niece, Kylie Leavens; aunt, Marylyn Porter; and uncle, Kenny Funk. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 22 Sept 2018.
