Andrew Weresh Died After Long Illness
Had His Back Broken In Mine Accident Last December
Andrew Weresh Sr., of this city, passed away Sunday morning at 5:45 at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, where he has been a patient since before the first of the year.
Mr. Weresh had his back broken in a slate fall in the mines last December and after a few days spent in the Colfax Sanitarium, he was taken to the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, where he had been a patient sufferer these many days.
The accident that befell Mr. Weresh happened the day before Christmas and he passed away the day before the celebration of July 4th.
He was a strong hearty man and was never sick until this accident. He was industrious, working in the mines for many years and at the Close-To-Nature Co., and in spare time and off days worked in his garden and among the fruit trees at his home, that each year showed the results of his efforts.
Andrew Weresh was born May 1st, 1871 in the state of Pennsylvania and passed away July 3rd, 1932 at the age of 61 years, two months and 2 days, at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines.
When 19 years of age he came to Iowa and this state has since been his home. For the past thirty years he has been a resident of Jasper county.
On the 24th of October 1891 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Ferrick at Oskaloosa, Iowa and to this union three daughters and four sons were born.
Besides his wife, he is survived by the daughters, Mrs. Anna Cholick, of Lakefield, Minn., Mrs. Mary Benson of Hollywood, Calif., and Miss Elizabeth Weresh of Des Moines and 4 sons, John of Creston, Joe, Andrew and Alfred of Colfax and five grandchildren.
Though always enjoying good health until the time of his injury Mr. Weresh reconciled himself soon after the accident in the mine which injured his spine, to the fact he was never to walk again, and although all that could be done for him was done, he never complained and in a most patient way did his best to remain cheerful to the end.
The departed was a good husband, a good father and a good citizen. His was a kindly nature and only the best would he see in his neighbors and friends. Generous to a fault he was, and much happiness did he spread throughout his life time by sharing what he had with others.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning July 5th from the Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. T. V. Lawlor officiating. Interment was had at the Colfax cemetery.
Out of town relatives attending the funeral of A. Weresh Tuesday morning were Mrs. Joe Cholick and son of Lakefield, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. John Weresh and son of Creston, John Ferrick and son of Williamson, Mrs. George Major of Newton and Mr. and Mrs. John Galusha of Newton.
