Mr. and Mrs. August Schultz, their son, Will Schultz who drove the car, and his two children, Roland and Dorothy and their daughter Mrs. Amelia Clark from their farm 6 miles north-east of Kellogg, drove to Des Moines Monday conveying Dale Clark to M.E. Hospital for a slight operation.
This done, they left him in nurses’ care and in the evening were returning home. They passed through Colfax after 9 o’clock and were out the S.E. limits of town when their car turned completely over, pinning the entire party under.
People in the locality rushed to their assistance and the car was righted and the injured carried into Evans’ home nearby.
Slight injury was the lot of all. Mrs. A. Schultz had a broken finger, her daughter, Mrs. Clark had a broken nose, Roland had a cut in the forehead, Dorothy’s jaw injured but not broken and the driver was bruised and cut about the face and head.
The serious injury fell to August Schultz, 66 years old. He was unconscious when rescued, had suffered base fracture of the skull and a broken nose and from these injuries he died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Many relatives and friends from Kellogg, Mitchellville and other points were here during the day. Among them were Albert and Hugo Hasselbrink, his sister, Mrs. Chris Hasselbrink, his brother, Wm. Shultz, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ray and sons, August and Earl and Henry Wulf, all of Kellogg, also Hans Wulf of Mitchellville.
The remains were taken to Kellogg Tuesday night.
