Russell Gosselink, 92, of Grinnell and former-ly of Lynnville, passed away Wed-nesday morning, Nov. 22, 2017, at Windsor Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 25, at Lynnville Friends Church. Burial was in the Woodland Cemetery, Lynnville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Windsor Manor or make a donation of your choice.
Russell E. Gosselink, the son of Edward and Gertrude (Ver Steegh) Gosselink, was born Oct. 21, 1925, in Mahaska County.
He was a 1943 graduate of New Sharon High School. Jan. 13, 1945, Russell was united in marriage to Jeanne Lester at the First Presbyterian Church Parsonage in New Sharon. To this union three children were born: Barbara, Beverly, and Darrell.
Russell farmed in the Cedar and Lynnville area for over 20 years before purchasing the grocery store in Lynnville in 1968, Gosselink's Grocery. In 1998, they sold the grocery store and retired.
Russ enjoyed playing guitar and singing in a country band, square dancing, bowling, and golf. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Russell was a member of the Lynnville Lions Club, the Lynnville Chamber of Commerce, and the Grinnell United Methodist Church.
His memory will be honored by his children: Barbara Downey of Illinois City, IL, Beverly Gosselink of Knoxville, and Darrell (Gwen) Gosselink of Newton; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grand-children; a brother, Lester Gosselink of Montezuma; two sisters, Ruby DeYoung of New Sharon and Marilyn (Wendell) Schultz of Fremont; two sisters-in-law, Norma Gosselink of Grinnell and Geraldine Hulbert of Oskaloosa; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeanne Gosselink; three brothers, Donald Gosselink, Harold (Florence) Gosselink, and Robert Gosselink; a sister, Donna (Nick) DeJong; son-in-law, Jerry Downey; a great-grandchild, Logan Higginbotham; and a brother-in-law, Stanley DeYoung.
