Edgar went home to be with his Savior on February 20, 2018, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 26, 2018, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton. Visitation will be 3p.m. until 5p.m., Sunday, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Please, in lieu of flowers and as an expression of sympathy, memorials may be designated to Our Savior Lutheran Church, in his name.

Edgar Bernard "Ed" Trost, 91, was born July 30, 1926, in Farnhamville, Iowa. The son of Rev. Adolf and Laura (Nahnsen) Trost, he graduated from the Churdan High School, Class of 1943. He served his country with the US Army in the European Theater, during World War II. After returning from his military service, he received an accounting degree from Drake University.

On February 24, 1957, Ed was united in marriage with Geneva Anderson, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson, Iowa. Ed was employed four years with the Internal Revenue Service and later for the Maytag Corporation, retiring in 1988 as Director of Corporate Taxes, after thirty five years of service. He served on a number of national and state tax committees while at Maytag. He was one of the founding members of Our Savior Lutheran Church, was its first president of the congregation, and served in many other offices and will be greatly missed. Ed served on many boards, including the Newton Public Library, Progress Industries, Project Awake and Jasper County Concert Association.

Ed is survived by his wife of 61 year, Geneva; his son and daughter-in-law Dr. Gregory and Karen Trost of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law Kimberly and Patrick Reding of Indianola; his five grandchildren: Bradley (Kara) Trost, Mark Trost, Alyssa, Katelyn and Brittney Reding; and many good neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Ruth; and three brothers: Herbert, Paul and Charles. Online condolences may be left for the family at: www.pencefh.com. ~ The Pence Reese Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 20 Feb 2018.
