Grace (Van Wyk) Van Gorp
March 1, 1927 ~ December 6, 2017 (age 90)

Grace Van Gorp, 90, of Newton, formerly of Sully, died on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at Newton Village Healthcare. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 11, 2017, at the First Reformed Church in Sully. The family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. Memorials to the Sully First Reformed Church, the Iowa Commission for the Blind, or the Alzheimer’s Association may be left at the funeral home or the church the day of the service.

Grace, the daughter of Cornelius “Cornie” and Artje “Artie” (Van Maanen) Van Wyk, was born on March 1, 1927 in a log cabin/house on a farm near Peoria, Iowa. She grew up around the Sully area. On February 14, 1950, Grace was united in marriage with Eldred Van Gorp in Sully. They farmed in rural Reasnor before moving to Sully in 1979. Grace was a farmer’s wife and homemaker and also worked at the Casey’s General Store in Sully for over 30 years. In 2013, Eldred and Grace moved to Newton. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sully. Grace enjoyed embroidery, needlepoint baking, and gardening.

Those left to honor Grace’s memory are her husband, Eldred Van Gorp of Newton; children, Verlan (Michelle) Van Gorp of Des Moines and Sheryl “Sherry” (Alan) Vander Linden of Monroe; her grandchildren, Ami (Eric) Burns, Tony (Ellen) Vander Linden, Scott Van Gorp, Eric (Janell) Van Gorp, Amber (Chad) Watters, and Ashley (Marshal) Wissler; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Mia, Carter, Luke, Selma, Alexis, Hope, Josie, Nora, and Jase; her siblings, Gertrude “Trudy” Wehrle, June (Ron) Kramer, Arvin (Anna Mae) Van Wyk, Joyce (Carl) De Goey, Darlene (Harris) Vos, Helen (Verlan) Brand, Carolyn Vande Voort, and Judy (Ed) Van Kooten; and her many nieces and nephews.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harvey Gene Van Wyk, in infancy; her brother, Walter (Harriet Ann) Van Wyk; a grandson and a great-granddaughter, Emerson, both in infancy; a granddaughter-in-law, Heidi Van Gorp; and two brothers-in-law, Raymond Wehrle and Larry Vande Voort. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, IA 02 Dec 2017.
