Marilyn Ferne Schmitt, age 85 formerly of Colfax, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Fountain West Care Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Highland Park Christian Church in Des Moines. The family will greet friends following the service at a luncheon at the church. Burial will take place at Colfax Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to DAR General Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The daughter of Paul Leland and Genevieve Kathryn (Leypoldt) Mason, Marilyn was born on March 15, 1932, in Hershey, Nebraska. On March 18, 1968, she was united in marriage to Lee Edwin Schmitt in St. Joseph, Missouri. Marilyn was a member of the Highland Park Christian Church and the D.A.R. She enjoyed genealogy, gardening and quilting.

Those left to honor Marilyn's memory include her children, Will (Cindy) Henderson, Kim Dunagan, and Lyle Schmitt; four grandchildren, Michelle, Michael, Jennifer, and Alex; four great grandchildren; a sister, Norma Howser and a brother, Paul (Renee) Mason.
