Daughters of the South Send Flowers
Mrs. Fanny V. Hughes received from the Daughters of the Confederacy of the South flowers to be placed on the grave of john Hughes, who was captain of the Mount Vernon Guards of Alexandria, Virginia, and whose death occurred in this county twenty years ago.
The beautiful flowers that had blossomed under the southern skies were still fragrant and brought with them a benediction which touched the hearts of the wife and son of the soldier, who had fought for his beloved home in the south just as many a northerner had fought for his home in the north.
How closely this Memorial Day brings together the north and the south. Honor and flowers for those who fought whether he wore the gray or the blue.
