Larry D. Heneke, 82, of Maquoketa, IA passed away on Sunday morning, January 10, 2021, after a brief time at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, with his wife and daughter at his side.

A memorial visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. A private family graveside service and burial will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa. It will be required to utilize face masks and to observe social distancing guidelines during the visitation and services.

Larry Dean Heneke was born August 13, 1938 in Jackson County, Iowa to Lavern and Mildred (Phillips) Heneke. He was a 1956 graduate of Maquoketa High School.

He married Marcella M. Barten on September 18, 1960 at Andrew Presbyterian Church, where Larry was a trustee.

He served his country in the Army Reserves beginning in April 1957 as General Supply Specialist in Fort Leonardwood, MO, earning an honorable discharge August 31, 1964.

Larry worked at Clinton Engines from 1957 – 1972. He began his career with Iowa Electric in 1972 at the Hydro Plant in Maquoketa, and at DeWitt power plant, working up to Hydro Diesel Engineer. He assumed full management of Lakehurst Dam in September 1984 and moved the family to the home at the dam site. He retired from Iowa Electric in 1997.

Larry was a jack of all trades, always ready to help whoever asked. He enjoyed golfing and was a past board president of Maquoketa Country Club. Additionally, he enjoyed card playing, fishing, and was an avid New York Yankees and Green Bay Packers fan.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Marcella; his daughter, Dena (Bruce) Hutton of Davenport, IA; his grandsons, Chris Hutton of Iowa City, IA and Matthew Hutton of Ottumwa, IA; his sisters, Shirley Propst of Maquoketa, and Karen Sanger of Davenport; his brother, Tom (Kim) Heneke of Spirit Lake, IA; sisters and brothers-in-law Ester Weirup, Vi (Ron) Yeager, Alvin (Vera) Barten, all of Maquoketa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Jackson County Historical Society, Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or a charity of the donor’s choic.
