Mary A. Falls, 88, passed away Tuesday afternoon November 27th, 2018 at her home in Thomson, Illinois. Born September 15, 1930 in Rockford, Illinois to Sarah A. McLaughlin and Leroy J. Rogers; Mary was raised in Elgin, Illinois; Sabula, Iowa; and Mitchell, South Dakota as her father's railroad job required them to relocate quite often. Upon graduating high school, she attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S. D., but returned to Savanna in early 1950 when her father was transferred.

She met her husband Robert E. Falls that same year and were married at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Saturday August 11th, 1951. She and Robert lived in Hanover, Illinois until 1954 while she was employed at the Savanna Ordinance Depot as a technical draftsman for strategic weapons storage. In early 1954 they moved to Thomson and was a stay at home mom until 1962 when both her children were in school and returning to the workforce, she eventually retired from the United States Postal Service in 1980.

Mary enjoyed many activities with her husband and children, especially boating, camping and being outdoors. She helped out in many different school and neighborhood activities and other social events throughout her lifetime, as well as being a member of the Carroll County Humane Society, Palisades Art League, Savanna and Thomson Public Libraries and the Carroll County Genealogical Society.

She really loved the fact that her retirement finally allowed her to spend more time with her husband and her hobbies: gardening, music, reading, and painting. She even taught some art workshops. She also enjoyed writing and for years, her Christmas poems would grace the front pages of local newspapers. However, her greatest pastime was being a grandmother.

Preceded in death by her husband of 55 years in 2006, Mary is survived by her son Robert L. of Thomson, daughter Helen (Arly) and beloved granddaughter Shannon Lipscomb both of whom reside in Kentucky, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mary will be greatly missed. There will be a private burial and a memorial might be announced at a later date.
