Wayne was born March 25, 1942 in Bellevue at the home farm, the son of Odelo and Ila (Herrig) Scheckel. He graduated from Bellevue Public School in 1960. Wayne married Julie Keil on August 29, 1964. Wayne was a charter member of the Bellevue Horseman’s Club, and member of UAW Local 94. He enjoyed auctioneering, horse riding in his younger years, catering many weddings over 18 years, going to the casino with his wife, spending countless hours farming, spending winters in Florida and Arizona, camping, and ice fishing. Wayne was never afraid to do a hard day’s work; he worked on Alfred Lampe farm, worked on the farm with Bud and Lillian Knake, Kueter Construction, and Minneapolis Pipe Line. Wayne started at John Deere, Dubuque Works in 1965, retiring after 30 years in 1995. He farmed for 29 years North of Bellevue on the farm his son now owns, and Wayne still loved to go out and “putz” at the farm. He owned and operated Julie’s Parlor Restaurant, worked road construction for his brother Tom for several years after his retirement, and was 1 of the 4 “Roadies” for the Iowa Cornfed Girls. Wayne was a hard worker, family man, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Wayne especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his “Honey” Julie.
