Dubuque Daily Times, Sunday, Nov 15, 1874, Dubuque, IA, Page: 4

The Mr. Thomas Connolly, of LaMotte, whose sudden death was noticed in the Times yesterday, was a prominent citizen of Jackson County, having resided there many years. He was educated for a Catholic priest, and had a fine education, which, he has chosen some professional, pursuit 2wiould have brought him into more than local prominence. Renouncing his idea of embracing the priesthood early in life, he chose agricultural pursuits, married, and settled quietly down to farming life, in which he was quite successful, and had brought about him, in his home, many evidences of and means to gratify his cultivated scholarly tastes. He was buried yesterday, Rev. Asa Countryman, of the Universalist Church of this city, preaching the funeral sermon. Peace to the good man’s ashes.
