Clay K. Johnson, 55, of Baldwin, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

A celebration of Clay's life will be held at 11 A.M., Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Cremation will follow the visitation and burial will be at the Pence Cemetery, rural Baldwin, Iowa.

Clay Kent Johnson was born on August 3, 1962 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Henry Eli and Vera Desire (DeMoss) Johnson Sr. He was a 1980 graduate of Midland Community High School, and married Peggy S. Paysen in 1985 in Monmouth, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Clay Jr. and Corey.

Clay first worked for Campbell's in Maquoketa as a mechanic and had also owned and operated Clay's KerrMcGee Gas Station. He then worked as a semi-truck driver for Schneider Trucking Company for over 20 years, and for the past six years for J.B. Hunt Trucking Company.

Clay loved working on vehicles, fishing, riding motorcycles, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family. He especially loved family gatherings, and pets, "Dexter" his cat, and "Bowser" his dog. His love for his family and others was exemplified even further after his passing as he gave the greatest gift through organ/tissue donation.

Those left to honor Clay's memory include his children, Clay Jr. (Brenda) Johnson of Trivoli, IL, Corey (Brittany) Johnson of Maquoketa, IA, Nicole (and special friend Jake Parker) of IN, and Destiny (Nic) Schneider of Maquoketa, IA; 5 grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis Smith of Dayton, TX, Janice Johnson of Clearfield, UT, Ellen (Larry) Agnitsch of Baldwin, IA, and Mary Kay (Gary) Schmidt of Lost Nation, IA; brothers, Henry (Laurie) Johnson of Yuba City, CA, Larry (Jean) Johnson of Iowa City, IA, Rev. Harry (Barb) Johnson of Akeley, MN, and Stephen Johnson of Bonne Terre, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter April Sue.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Clay Kent Johnson memorial fund has been established.
