Edmund R. "Ed" Herrig age 93 of 1240 Cerro Drive in Dubuque died Tuesday November 20, 2012 at Luther Manor. Funeral services will be at 10 AM Monday November 26, 2012 at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church with Fr. Steve Rosonke officiating. Entombment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, with Military Honors by American Legion Post #6. Friends may call from 4 PM to 8 PM Sunday November 25, 2012 at The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 PM.

He was born on October 3, 1919 in LaMotte, Iowa the son of John and Mary (Thielen) Herrig and was educated at Holy Rosary School in LaMotte. He married the love of his life Madonna E. "Donna" Heller on May 4, 1963 at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church in Dubuque. Ed served in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1941 to 1945 in both Africa and Europe. He worked for Dohrn Transfer for 32 years retiring in 1982 and then worked part time at Wahlert Catholic High School for 12 years. He was a member of the General Drivers Local #421, American Legion Post #6 and Saint Anthony's Parish. Ed enjoyed playing golf, cards and traveling. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends and he will be remembered for his quick wit and jokes.

He is survived by his wife Madonna, three children Thomas J. (Kathy) Herrig of Dubuque, Ronald J. (Marcia) Herrig of Elk Grove Village, IL, Douglas J. (Beth) Herrig of Aurora, IL, five grandchildren Nicholas, Justin, Emma, Clare, and Kaylee. Plus, a brother William "Bill" (Joan) Herrig of Dubuque and sister Lucille McAndrew of Bernard, IA a sister-in-law Marie Herrig of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Norbert, Wilfred, Arthur, Julian, Arnold and Albert, sisters Alvina Hoxmeier, Hilda Koch, and Ermina Koch.

An Edmund Herrig memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the Nurses and Staff at Luther Manor, to Dr. Brian Sullivan and his staff and to Fr. Steve and Sr. Margaret Ann for all they did for Ed and his family.
