Obituary for Lloyd Burkert Jr.
Lloyd Burkert Jr., 94, of Bellevue, passed away Sunday morning, May 6, 2018, at Maquoketa Care Center, in Maquoketa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 PM, Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue. Visitation for Lloyd will take place on Wednesday prior to the service from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, at the church. Burial will take place in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Bellevue American Legion Post #273.

Lloyd was born on August 18, 1923, in Andrew, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Nettie (Gnade) Burkert. He married Inola (Gieseman) Burkert on October 7, 1944 at St, John Lutheran Church in Bellevue. She passed away on December 21, 2011.

Lloyd served his country in the US Army from 1944-1946. He farmed most of his life and worked for John Deere retiring in 1987. Lloyd was a member of the Bellevue American Legion for 71 years, he enjoyed fishing and was a talented carpenter.

Those left to honor his memory include his three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters Rosella Dyas, of Maquoketa, IA, and Charlotte (Ray) Huffman-Hein, of Niles, MI.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, wife Inola, son John, daughter Annette, grandson Jeremy, and two sisters, Leta Bechen, and Florence Bowman.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Lloyd’s name.
