Luella C. Schneden (1924-2018)

Luella C. Schneden, 93, of Davenport died Saturday, January 6, 2018 with her loving family at her bedside. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 11th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Delmar. Burial will be at the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Delmar. Friends may call from 3-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 10th at Lahey & Dawson Funeral Home in Maquoketa. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Luella C. Cavanagh was born October 7, 1924 in rural Clinton county, daughter of Frank and Mary (Crowley) Cavanagh. She graduated from Delmar High School in 1942. In 1943 she began nurses’ training with the U.S. Cadet Core and became a Registered Nurse. Luella worked for over 40 years as an RN in various medical offices in Maquoketa, and was Head Nurse at the Jackson County Public Hospital.

Luella married Russell Schneden on June 23, 1948 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Petersville, IA. Luella was dedicated to her family and profession. She enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, visiting with friends, gardening, cooking and had a great sense of humor. She was known for her sugar cookies and Christmas candy!

Survivors include six children; Mary (Tom) Fey of Clear Lake, Barbara (Gary)Krause of Davenport, Bill (Julie) Schneden of Davenport, Bob (Peggy) Schneden of Davenport, David (Sue) Schneden of Delmar, Diane (Doug) Nelson of Davenport, fourteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law Myrna Cavanagh of Maquoketa, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Russell, a son, Russell, in infancy, her sisters, Mae, Madaline, Carmilla, Helen and her brothers, Francis, Walter, and Patrick.

Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Delmar.
