Walter Potter

Walter Edward Potter , 88, of Preston died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 at his home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15, at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston. The Rev. Gregory Geier of the Evangelical Lutheran Church officiated.

Burial was in the Preston Cemetery in Preston.

Visitation was held from 1 p.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Potter was born July 29, 1919, in Canton to Eugene B. and Wilma (Rickert) Potter.

He attended school in Emeline and Maquoketa.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1945. During his enlistment he was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Bridget in the South Pacific.

Mr. Potter was an electrician and mechanic for many years. He also worked for a filing station in Phoenix, Ariz.

He enjoyed harness racing and loved to visit with the owners and drivers. He also enjoyed working on lawn mowers. He always look forward to going on deliveries with his friend Bob Kilburg. He loved spending time with his friends.

Survivors include two sisters, Hazel Dornbush of Clinton and Betty (Mrs. Harvey) Mogel of Perkin, Ill.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

A memorial has been established. a grandson, Edward and a great-granddaughter, Ashley. [mistake made by newspaper].

Memorials may be designated to the United Methodist Church, DeWitt.
