Stanley E. "Stan" Weets, 86, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at WestWing Place in DeWitt, Iowa.

A celebration of Stanley's life will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, October 20, 2017, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Thursday, October 19, 2017, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Monmouth, Iowa, with military honors.

Stanley Erwin Weets was born on March 14, 1931 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Martin Peter and Helen (DeMoss) Weets. He was a 1947 graduate of Baldwin High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He married Dorothy Shaw on February 11, 1956 in Morrison, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 27, 1987. He later married Patricia A. Wallace Bean on October 13, 1991 in Maquoketa, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 6, 2014.

Upon receiving an honorable discharge Stanley worked as a machinist for Clinton Engines in Maquoketa for 24 years, Caterpillar in Mt. Joy, and E.J Voggenthaler for 19 years. He also farmed for many years and owned and operated the Hootonanny Cafe for 5 years.

Stanley was a former member of both the Maquoketa VFW Post #3633 O'Connor-Regenwether and the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75. He enjoyed camping, playing cards, and pool leagues. He was an avid bowler and had served as past president of the Maquoketa Bowling Association.

Those left to honor Stanley's memory include his children, Nancy (Rodney) Hooton of Dyersville, IA, Robert Violette of Abernathy, TX, Martin Weets of Savannah, MO, Tom (Narja) Weets of Warrensburg, MO, Shirley (Frank) Sallee of Livingston, MT, Dale Weets of Wilton, IA, Wayne Weets of Oskaloosa, IA, Barbara (James Jr.) Kemp of Delmar, IA, Jerry (Heidi) Weets of Lockport, IL, Virginia (Craig) McCoy of Des Moines, IA, and Mary Jo (Paul) Geerts of Lost Nation, IA; honorary son and nephew, Edward Beam of Delavan, WI; many grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; a brother Marvin Weets of Sabula, IA; and sisters, Deloris Newell of Maquoketa, IA, Marlana Steiner of AZ, Sharon Kreutner of Cedar Rapids, IA, & Kaye (Bill) West of AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy and his wife Pat, a son Keith, a sister Betty Mott, 2 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild Brentley Kemp.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Stanley E. "Stan" Weets memorial fund has been established.
