Charles Mitchell, 75, of Maquoketa died Saturday, February 23, 2013, at his home. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa, Iowa. There will be no public visitation. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa with military honors. Charles was a former member of the Maquoketa Rotary. He was active with the Wounded Warrior Project and the Jackson Co. Historical Society. Charles is survived by his wife Bonnie of Maquoketa, five children; Douglass Mitchell of Henderson, Nevada, Brett Mitchell of Olathe, KS, Charles Mitchell IV of Oceanside, CA, Woodrow Mitchell and Katherine (Brett) McAfee of Maquoketa, and 16 grandchildren. Charles had served in US Marine Corp for 35 years, he was a warfighter having served as a lawyer and judge, retiring as a Brigadier General. Memorials may be given to Jackson County Historical Society or Hospice of Jackson County.
