Regina Sagers (1913-2017)

Regina C. Sagers, 104, of Amana, and formerly of Maquoketa, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at Lakeview Village in Amana, Iowa. 
A celebration of Regina’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa. There is no visitation. A luncheon will follow the services in the church fellowship hall. A private burial will be held in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.
Regina Campbell Swift was born April 17, 1913, to Blanche Emma Campbell and Frederick James Swift Sr. She attended the Maquoketa Schools graduating from High School in 1931, and Maquoketa Junior College in 1933. She completed her college at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1935 with a B.A degree in psychology. After teaching for two years, she married Christian Blair Sagers on Dec. 4, 1937, in Marshalltown, Iowa. Mrs. Sagers served on the Jackson County Board of Social Welfare, the Maquoketa School Board, the Library Board, Arts Committee of the Maquoketa Area Foundation, President of Chapter BX P.E.O. and served on the Historical Preservation Commission. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and First United Methodist Church. 
She was very active in her community, loved playing cards, spending time with her family, and made friends anywhere she went. Mrs. Sagers is survived by her daughter, Janna Poula of Williamsburg, Iowa; three grandchildren, Christopher Poula, Mitchell (Lynnette) Poula, and Jennifer (James) Portwood; five great-grandchildren, David (Haley) Ramsey, Heather Poula, Haley Poula, Ruthie Portwood, and Chloe Portwood; and two great-great grandchildren Chay and Avery Ramsay.   She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1975 C. Blair Sagers, brother FJ Swift Jr., and two sisters Anna Mary DeWitt and Suzanne Navin. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Lakeview Village and Essence of Life Hospice, in Amana, Iowa, for the care they took of Regina Sagers. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Regina C. Sagers memorial fund has been established.
