P. C. Burke – a farmer in Sec. 10, Butler Township was born in Cavan County, Ireland in 1823. In 1845 he immigrated to Watertown, Mass. In 1846, during the Mexican War he entered the service of the U. S. and served in the Ordinance Department of the government, until 1856.

He then moved to Jackson County and bought 200 acres of land. Mr. Burke represented Butler Township on the County Board of Supervisors for two years. He was chairman of the Presidents Board of Township Trustees and also president of the school board in the district.

While in Watertown, Mass., he married Nancy A. McCabe. They had thirteen children: Katie, Mary (who married P. Noonan), Lizzie (Sister of Mercy), Nannie, Josephine (Sister of Mercy), Rosa, Agnes, Alice, Maggie, Emeline, Gertie, Stephen A. and Charles B.
