Obituary for Mary M. Scandridge

Mary Scandridge, age 101, of Victor died on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Brooklyn Community Estates in Brooklyn.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor with Fr. Corey Close presiding. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Victor. A reception will follow at St. Bridget Catholic Church.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor and the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be designated to the St. Bridget Catholic Church and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 485, Victor, Iowa 52347. Memories and condolences may be shared with his family online at www.smithfh.com.

Mary Margaret (Thys) Scandridge was born March 3,1917 near Victor, Iowa, the daughter of August and Elizabeth (DeSutter) Thys. She was baptized and made her first communion at St Bridget's Catholic Church in Victor, Iowa. She received her education in Iowa County country schools.

Mary was united in marriage to Paul John Scandridge August 20,1941 at St Bridget's Catholic Church in Victor, Iowa. She was a devoted farm wife and mother. She had a zest for life with a great sense of humor and quick, witty comebacks. Mary enjoyed working at the Victor Cafe and baked some of the best angel food cakes. She relished traveling and took numerous bus trips, toured Europe, and went with family to Branson, Missouri. Mary loved to spend time with family and friends. She was always ready for an adventure. A favorite memory was riding the wooden roller coaster at Adventureland Park at the age of 90. Her hobbies included playing cards and bingo.

Mary is survived by her three children, Jean Pozzi of Bend, Oregon; Jim Scandridge (Jeannine) of Victor; and Daniel Scandridge of Hartwick; seven grandchildren Steven Coats, Jill Flores, Lisa Taylor, Kristin Nunnelley, Tanya Rajtora, Paul (P.J.) Scandridge and Brien Scandridge; eleven great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and three nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents; one brother, Frank Thys; sister-in-law, Margaret Thys; daughter-in-law, Connie Scandridge; son-in-law, Arthur Pozzi; and nephew, John Thys.
