Norway

Saundra Haden Boots, 84, daughter of Elbert and DeVee (Brideson) Haden, was born Jan. 9, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa. She passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the Amana Retirement Community in Amana, Iowa.

Saundra graduated from Panora High School in 1952, where she was the homecoming queen. She began working for Reed Insurance Co. in Panora, Iowa, following graduation. On Dec. 19, 1953, Saundra was united in marriage to Leonard Boots at the Methodist Church in Panora.

To this union, three children were born.

Together, they operated the family farm, which included field crops, hogs, cattle and horses. They were married 42 years before Leonard passed away in 1996. Saundra retired from the Adel Public Library in 1998 after 20 years and moved to Panora.

On Oct. 28, 2006, Saundra was united in marriage to John Brockschink in Norway, Iowa, at the United Methodist Church. They split their time between Panora and Norway, enjoying traveling, spending winters in Florida and visiting family.

Saundra was a member of the Panora and Norway United Methodist Churches. She was active in the Dallas County 4-H Extension Council, Friendly Neighbors Club, United Methodist Women and Raccoon Valley Questers.

Saundra enjoyed spending time with her family and loved Christmas.

She is survived by her husband, John of Norway; son, David (Johanna) of Redfield; daughters, Debra (Tod) Contner of Rippey and Diane (Denny) Foster of Lake Ozark, Mo.; seven stepchildren, Linda Wiebold of Cedar Rapids, Melody (Jay) Wiebold of Cedar Rapids, John (Kara) Brockschink of Cedar Rapids, Carol (Jim) Hemesath of Norway, Betty (Jeff) Nance of Manchester, Kim (Dan) Schneider of Chaska, Minn., and Gary Brockschink of Cedar Rapids; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Roxie) Haden of Panora; brother-in-law, Allan Mattke of Sumner; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Melvin McCord; and sister, Sharon Mattke.

She will be missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Norway. Another visitation will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 26, at the Twigg Funeral Home in Panora, followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. at West Cemetery in Panora.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Adel Public Library or the Heifer Project.
