Beverly L. Ballard, 89, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Watkins, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Amana.

Beverly is survived by two sons, Donald (Sally) Ballard of Fairfax and Ed (Doris) Ballard of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Judy (Richard) Kitzmann of Lakeville, Minn., Shirley (Raymond) Kilts of Fairfax and Nancy (Burt) White of Swisher; 10 grandchildren, Christine (John) Naxera, Jason (Angie) Ballard, Preston (Amy) Kitzmann, Heather (Wynn) Belton, Tricia (Patrick) Kitzmann, Holly (Ben) Smith, Emily (Eoin) Benter, Allison (Brad) Groff, Sadie (Jake) Nolan and Jacob (Brittany) White; 19 great-grandchildren, Alex, Hanna, Nick, Landen, Mitchell, Connor, Grady, Ava, Kellen, Jaden, Zander, Raely, Ivy, Braiden, Addison, Braxton, Saylor, Knox and Coy; and two brothers, Ronald Grimm and Delbert (Nettie) Grimm, both of Cedar Rapids. Beverly also is survived by her best friend and companion for the past 24 years, William Kellogg.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edmond Ballard (March 28, 1973); her sister, Margie Ballard; and five brothers, Ernest "Jack" Grimm, Glenn Grimm, Wayne Grimm, Lloyd "Dick" Grimm and Bennie Grimm.

Beverly Louise was born March 12, 1929, in Garrison, the daughter of Harold and Edith (Guingrich) Grimm. She attended Van Horne and Marengo schools. Beverly married Edmond James Ballard on April 8, 1946, in Missouri. The couple resided in Watkins for many years, where they co-owned Ballard Brothers Trucking. In later years, Beverly worked for Amana Refrigeration. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Watkins and enjoyed sewing, baking, canning, gardening, gambling and, most of all, decorating her home during the Christmas season. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and dearest friend, Bill Kellogg.

The Ballard family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mary Anne Nelson, the staff at Lakeview Village Assisted Living, Colonial Manor Nursing Home and Essence of Life Hospice in Amana for the excellent care that was provided to their mother.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2018, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Watkins. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Watkins with Father Dustin Vu as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Patrick and St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Watkins. Condolences may be left at www.phillipsfuneralhomes.com .
