A celebration of life for Maynard J. Schlabach, 66, Sarasota, Fla., will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 28, at Bethel Mennonite Church. He died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Burial will be in Tatum Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Austin Schlabach, Lane Schrock, Lance Helmuth, Darin Helmuth, Justin Helmuth, Brandon Helmuth, Dustin Stutzman and Bryce Snyder. Honorary Pallbearers will be Fran Suppa, Troy Smith, Mo Miller, Sam Helmuth and Anthony Black.

Maynard Jay Schlabach was born Jan. 14, 1952, in Parnell, the youngest of nine children of Simon “Dick” and Mary (Hochstedler) Schlabach. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1970.

In 1988 he moved to Sarasota and started M & T Loading and Hauling. He married the love of his life, Sharon Alday on June 5, 1993.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his son, Travis (Allison) Schlabach, Marengo; his daughter, Ashley Courtney, Sarasota; his grandchildren, Ashlea Erin (Bryant) Mente, Springville, and Austin Darin Schlabach, Marengo; his brother, Duane (Chris) Schlabach, Parnell; his sisters, Arlene (Ira) Nissley, Williamsburg; Celesta (Hank) Richer, Altoona, Fla.; Savilla (Wayne) Stutzman, Sarasota, and Annie Irene Snyder, Williamsburg; his sisters-in-law, Joyce Schlabach, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kay Schlabach-Medford, Sarasota, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Mattie Alday; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Lisa) Alday, Mike (Teresa) Alday, Bryan Alday and sister-in-law, Valerie (Lindsay) King, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Darin Lee Schlabach in 1980; his brothers, Stanley, Alvin Ray and Larry Schlabach; his brother-in-law, Dwayne Synder; nephews, Jeff Schlabach and Marcus Helmuth, and his father-in-law, Buddy Alday.
