Memorial services for Jessie Ross, 89, Anaheim, Calif., were held Feb. 19 at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cypress, Calif. She died Feb. 5, 2005, following a stroke.
Jessie Ross was born Jan. 5, 1916, in Dayton Township, Iowa County, the third of five children born to Carl and Emma Voelkel Wilson. She grew up on local farm land about two and one-half miles west of Millersburg. She graduated from Millersburg High School in 1933 and attended Coe College, Cedar Rapids, for two years before settling in California, where she met her future husband, Hillard C. Ross.
She and her family moved from Sherman Oaks to Anaheim in the 1950s when Anaheim was growing by leaps and bounds. She completed her degree from California State University, Long Beach, and then served as a reading specialist for the Centralia School District.
She was delighted with the recently published Millersburg sesquicentennial book. She, with her sisters, poured over the 816 pages of history, memories and photographs of family and friends. She will be dearly remembered by her many friends, colleagues and neighbors in Anaheim as a very loving, caring wife, mother grandmother and sister.
Ross is survived by two children, Victoria Beck and Robert C. Ross; two grandchildren, one great-grandson and two sisters, Opal Kissinger and Eva Underwood, both of who lived in close proximity to her in Anaheim.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; one brother, Ward, and one sister, Juanita Wilson.
