Obituary – Mrs. Isabel C. Johnson
Isabel M. Corrie was born October 6, 1865 in Cedar County, Iowa, the daughter of Wm. and Isabella Corrie. She received her education in public schools in Cedar Falls after which she taught. Following her father’s death in 1884 she came with her mother in 1890 to Ida County where she continued to teach school for many years. On September 12, 1908 she was united in marriage to Wm. Johnson and for a short time the couple lived in Washington, returning to a farm in Hayes Township which was their home for ten years. In 1920 they moved to Ida Grove which has since been their home. Mrs. Johnson was active in Sunday School and church activities in Hayes Chapel and later in the Church of God in Ida Grove until her health would no longer permit it. She took a very active interest in those about her and many deeds of kindness will long be remembered. She died January 5, 1950 in the Ida Grove Hospital following a long illness. Survivors are her husband, Will Johnson, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. A brother, Sam Corrie, and a sister, Mrs. Pearl Garner, preceded her in death several years ago. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Moore-Christensen Funeral Home in charge of Rev. R. M. Hudson. Mrs. Frank Elser and Mrs. John Collier accompanied by Mrs. Arthur Rathbun sang “Rock of Ages,” “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “In the Sweet By and By.” Burial was in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Royal Corrie, Wallace Corrie, Roger Corrie, Emmett Barrett, Floyd Luscombe and Dwight Garner. Those attending the services from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Luscombe of Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Beason of Correctionville; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Gernhardt of Pierson, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Corrie of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Corrie of Anthon, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pilcher of Lawton, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Corrie of Bronson, Mr. and Mrs. Will Corrie and Betty and Mr. and Mrs. Royal Corrie of Des Moines and Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Barrett of Schaller.
