Death of W. C. Drake
The remains of W. C. Drake, who died in the hospital at Cherokee Saturday of last week, were brought to this city Monday and interred under the auspices of the I.O.O.F. lodge of which order he was a member. Wm. C. Drake was born in Indiana in 1853 and moved to Linn County, Iowa, with his mother when 4 years of age. He grew to manhood there and in 1873 came to Ida County, settling on a farm near this city and had made this county his home almost continuously up until the time of his affliction about a year ago. He was united in marriage to Miss Julia Miller and to their union there were five children born, Mrs. Nellie Bagwill of San Jose, California, Mrs. Winnie Smith of Huron, S. D., Wm. H. Drake of Palo, Iowa, Lewis who died at the age of 3 years, and a child that died in infancy. The wife passed away in 1884. He was married to Mrs. Anna Bargelt in 1894 and four children were born to them, three of whom together with the widow, survive him. The deceased was a peaceful and law abiding citizen and during his long residence in Ida County he formed a wide acquaintance and his many friends will be sorry to learn of his death.
