Darleen D. Johnson

Darleen D. Johnson, 87, of rural Quimby, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus.

Funeral services were held today at 10:30 a.m. at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby. Pastor Don Meyer officiated. Burial was at the Quimby Cemetery.

There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Visitation was from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Darleen was born Sept. 22, 1924 in Ida County, to William and Frieda (Schmeelk) Gehrts. She attended country schools in Ida County. She was married to Maurice Johnson on Sept. 19, 1946 at Marshalltown. She and her husband farmed in Grand Meadow Township for many years and Darleen continued to work on the farm until the last few weeks of her life. She was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting cooking, gardening and animals around the farm.

She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice on June 16, 2002, a grandson David and an infant brother Clarence.

She is survived by four children: Danny Johnson and his wife Patricia of Farmington, Minn.; Dayna Johnson and her husband Melvin Potthast of Glen Carbon, Ill.; Jerry Johnson and his wife Tamara of Marcus; Jay Johnson and his special friend Jenn of Belleville, Ill.; five grandchildren: Tracey and Greg Aegerter; Paul and Emberly Johnson, Ashley Johnson, Tory Johnson and Tyler Johnson; three great-grandchildren Delaney, Cooper and Odin; two sisters; Vera Johnson of Cherokee, and Norma Robbins and her husband Dutch of Cherokee.
