Mrs. John Pederson, 90, Bode's oldest resident died Saturday at her home in Bode following a several month's illness. She had been bedfast since suffering a stroke last fall.

The former Emelie Gangestad, she was born in Norway and came to Bode with her parents when she was a small child. Her father, Lars Gangestad, owned a tract of land where Bode is now located and she watched the town grow from just a few homes to the thriving community it is today.

She married Mr. Pederson in November 1881 and they had 12 children, nine of whom survive their mother. Mr. Pederson died about four years ago.

The children are: Mrs. Oscar (Emma) Rivenes of Woodburn, OR; Mrs. I.A. (Valborg) Suby of Whitewater, WI; Mrs. Oscar (Fern) Hegna of Hayfield, MN; Mrs. Borgina Johnson of Ankeny, formerly of Bode; Mrs. Carl (Sarah) Haugen, Edward Pederson and Carl Pederson all of St. Paul, MN; Chester Pederson of Anaheim, CA and Harry Pederson of Hardy.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Pederson was preceded in death by a 7-year-old daughter, Thelma and two sons, Leonard of Bode and Arthur of Minnesota who have died in the past few years.

Rites for Mrs. Pederson were held today (Tuesday) at St. Olaf Lutheran Church at Bode with burial there.
