Edward Walter passed away on March 1, 2023, at the age of 84. He was born in Cresco, Iowa on September 13, 1938 to Frebert and Amanda (Frahm) Walter. Ed was born and raised on a county line farm north of Cresco and graduated from Cresco High School. Until his Dad’s retirement, Ed farmed with him. He was still raising cattle and hogs into the 1970s.

In 1976, Ed married Faye Peterson, their son Patrick was born the following year. He and Faye were on the farm for twenty years during which time they both worked and enjoyed raising their son. Ed gradually rented the land to others and made additional income driving delivery trucks and school bus before he and Faye sold the farm and retired to Lime Springs.

Ed and Faye enjoyed the community and the many friends they made there. Her unexpected passing in 2008 just before Ed’s 70th birthday was a loss which he felt to the end of his life. Ed and Faye were active in their local church and in community affairs such as supporting the annual Lime Springs Sweet Corn Days celebration. In 2013, Ed was honored to be the Grand Marshall of the Sweet Corn Days parade. The convertible he rode in was driven by Ed’s friend Kirby with whom he attended many Lutefisk dinners over the years at churches for miles around.

Although he had MS for the last twenty years of his life, he tried to remain active and enjoyed many community activities, especially daily breakfast and coffee with friends until his final illness. Giving up this social life and the companionship of much loved dog, Skittles, were the hardest adjustments for Ed as he moved into the Accura Care Center in Cresco. He was comforted during this time by attention and visits from his sister in-law, Carol McGregor and her daughter Diane as well as his sister and family from Pennsylvania, and of course continuous phone calls and visits from son, Patrick. The restrictions and isolation brought on by the Covid epidemic were bound to contribute to his decline. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by family and friends.

He is survived by his son Patrick, his sister Gladys and spouse Charles H. Clifton, nephew Charles E. Clifton and wife Donna, niece Suzanne Clifton, and grand nephew Charles Joseph Clifton.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Frebert and Amanda Walter, his beloved wife Faye and uncles, Hugo and Dick Walter.
