Marvel Jean (James) Grabau, 91 passed away at Evans Memorial Home peacefully after a short illness on May 17, 2022. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, Iowa. No other public services will be held. Private burial will be at a later date at Phillips Cemetery in rural Bonair, Iowa.

Marvel was born on a farm near Bonair, Iowa on August 8, 1930 to John & Hulda (Hamann) James. Marvel graduated from Cresco High School in 1949. She held various secretarial positions until her marriage to Roger E. Grabau on July 26, 1958. The couple farmed near Bonair until Roger’s passing on February 1, 1988. She then moved to Cresco in 1991. They raised three children; Ann, Alan and Tim.

Marvel was a member of the Bonair Methodist Church until it closed in 1987, she then joined the Cresco Methodist Church. Marvel served the community in many capacities. She belonged to Cimota, United Methodist Women, Morning Circle and Hospital Auxillary.

She loved to garden and travel. She took many bus trips and proudly boasts that she had been to every state. She enjoyed keeping Tim updated on the farm markets and grain pricing. All who knew her knew she loved her morning coffee and looked forward to her Saturday morning coffee “therapy group” with her great friends.

She is survived by her son Tim (Sheila), son-in-law Todd Kowalke, grandchildren; Courtney, Caitlin, Garrett (fiancé Tessa), Karlee (Zach), and Gabe, along with a sister-in-law Jan Austin

Marvel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roger, daughter Ann, son Alan, sisters Marjorie Oliphant and Ila Johnson, brothers-in-law Gerald Hilliard, Stanley Austin, Hartzel Oliphant and Paul Johnson, and sister-in-law Margaret (Peg) Hilliard.
