Seifried, Margaret "Peg" (Svejda) 1934 - 2022

Margaret (Peg) Seifried died peacefully at 2:25 am on January 19, 2022, at the age of 87 in Cresco. She was born on January 27, 1934 in Pocahontas, Iowa, to Edward and Dorothy (Gregerson) Svejda, the second of four children. Peg moved to Newton, IA for a few years with her family and then moved back to Palmer where she graduated from High School. She moved to Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 17 and later moved to Ames, Iowa where she worked in the music department at Iowa State University.

She met Paul Seifried at a dance and later married him on October 9, 1954 and they lived on a farm near Palmer. Paul and Peg had 3 children Jennifer, Michael, and Lynn. They later moved to Cresco where they bought a farm in 1965. Peg directed the Notre Dame Choir, sang with the Elm Street Singers and was in a variety of plays. Peg sold Avon products, worked at a fabric store and was a bookkeeper for the Notre Dame parish. When Paul retired from farming, Peg and Paul traveled throughout the United States and Europe. They also enjoyed attending plays, musicals, and concerts. Paul Seifried passed away in 2009. Later, Peg met Paul Mathison and they enjoyed attending events and traveling together until Paul’s passing in 2017.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother, Tony Svejda. Peg is survived by her sister Patricia (Pat) Ehler of Early, IA, Terry (Cindy) Svejda of Longwood, FL, and her brother-in-law, Monsignor Kenneth Seifried of Holstein, IA. Her children, Jennifer (Michael) Rohrssen of Ames, IA, Michael (Ida) Seifried of Dunwoody, GA, and Lynn Seifried (John) of Minneapolis, MN. Grandchildren include, Catherine (Andrew) Teply, Margaret (Kenneth) Trytek, Samantha Rohrssen, Brian (Mindy) Seifried, and Erica Seifried. Great grandchildren include Leif Teply, Acacia Teply, Locke Teply, Hiram Teply, Clarke Teply and Celeste Teply.

The visitation service will be held at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 404 North Elm St., Cresco, on Friday, January 21 from 4-6:30 pm with a scripture reading and memory sharing from 6:30 pm to 7 pm. On Saturday, January 22, at Notre Dame Parish, there will also be a visitation at 10 with a funeral following at 11 and a luncheon at noon. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Notre Dame Church would be appreciated.
