Lester Lueck, age 83, of Cresco, IA passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA.
Lester Douglas Lueck was born on November 20, 1938, in Elgin, IL, to Wallace and Elizabeth (Bellows) Lueck. He was the third oldest of 4 siblings. Lester married his high school sweetheart Ruth Ann Peckham in 1960. Lester worked as a teamster truck driver and later as a business owner. Together while living in Portland, Oregon, Lester and Ruth Ann owned and operated a relatively large RV rental and repair business. He was truly a jack of all trades, from carpentry; brick work and finish carpentry. He could fix basically anything mechanical. Lester and Ruth Ann built, owned and operated Harbor Storage in Cresco, Iowa. They converted an old grocery store into a climate controlled indoor storage facility themselves.
Lester made friends easily and enjoyed many lifelong friendships and staying in contact with family all over the United States. Anyone that knew or even met Lester can attest that he was certainly one of a kind with a unique vision and passion for life. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, moose and deer hunting, and he especially loved spending time with his beloved dog, Bridgette.
Lester and Ruth Ann loved to cook and entertain. Lester was well known as a great cook who enjoyed spoiling friends and family with his feasts. Among many amazing dishes he and Ruth Ann would lovingly compete during holidays with their pies and clam chowders. A competition enjoyed by many.
Lester is survived by his son Lionel “Lynn” Lueck of Powell Butte, OR, grandchildren Kristina Oviatt of Vancouver, WA, Michael (Kira) Lueck of Bend, OR, and Thomas (Carly) Lueck of McKinney, TX, great-grandchildren Isabella Petroni, Payton Ann, Theodore “Teddy” Lueck, Harper Ruth, and Emmett Lueck, and brother-in-law Tom Peckham of Dike, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth Ann, daughters Rebecca and Laura, brother David, and sisters Nancy and Pat.
Memorial services for Lester will be held in 2022. Burial will take place in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco.
