Nelson Gager, aged 86 years, passed away yesterday morning at 5 o'clock at the home of his brother, John, in the south part of town, after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services will be held from the house Saturday at 1 o’clock. Rev. Gammons officiating, with burial in Oak Lawn.

GAGER.
Nelson Gager was born in Pickering, Canada, West April 21, 1831. He was the fifth of a family of eleven.
He grew to manhood in the place of his birth, and in the fall of 1853 he came to Decorah. The history of Winneshiek county states that he was the first permanent settler of Orleans twp., where he moved after residing in Decorah one year. In the spring of 1855 he moved to his pre-emption located six miles northeast of Cresco. There he made his home until about seven years years{sic} ago when he made his home in Cresco with daughter Tina until her death which occurred in October 1914. Since March 24, 1914, he lived with his brother John of Cresco.
June 9, 1858, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Gager, who preceded him in death by 11 years. There were four children of whom only Wesley, now of Orleans twp., survives. There are five grandchildren.
He united with the M. E. church over sixty years ago and lived an earnest Christian life, a good man, a good citizen, a humble follower of Christ. He died on Thursday morning, Feb. 10, 1916. He has gone to his reward.
Funeral services were held at the home of John Gager on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 12. The sermon was by Rev. Gammons, Rev. Kirwin and Rev. Pettit assisting. Interment was in Oak Lawn.
