OBITUARY.
WOODCOCK.
Frances Maria Tuell was born in Westmoreland, N. H., Jan. 3, 1828, and there grew to womanhood. She married Mr. Lawson T. Woodcock, May 11, 1848, and in 1855 moved with him to the frontier state of Iowa. They settled first in Waukon, where for eleven years Mr. Woodcock was engaged in the mercantile business. Here five children were born to them, but four of these died in infancy and only one daughter, Ida, grew to maturity. In 1866 Mrs. Woodcock moved with her husband to Cresco, where, for twenty-three years he occupied the position of station agent. In 1882 her only surviving daughter, who was the wife of Mr. John Stradley, passed away leaving a young child, also named John, who was taken and cared for by his grandparents.
Mrs. Woodcock’s life in Cresco was conspicuous for good works. She was very active in the aid society of the Congregational church, and did much with her husband to build the church up to its present prosperity. A humble and devout Christian; she was always to be found in the house of God on the Sabbath, even after she became very feeble. Mrs. Woodcock was extremely hospitable and had an unusually wide circle of friends. Her personal charm was such that everyone who knew her, loved her.
After over sixty years of happy married life Mr. Woodcock passed away Dec. 10, 1908. Since that time Mrs. Woodcock has been very feeble. On Monday afternoon, June 27, she suffered a paralytic stroke on the front porch of her residence and fell to the ground. She was immediately taken into the house and received every attention that medical skill could afford, but without success. She passed away Friday, July 1. The funeral was held at her residence Sunday afternoon, July 3, at 3:00 o’clock and was conducted by Rev. H. J. Hinman. The body was interred at Oaklawn.
