Mildred Laura Stevenson, 89, of Lime Springs, Iowa went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at the Accura Health Care Center of Cresco.
Born on October 1, 1928 Mildred (Mid) was the first born child of M. Ross and Laura (Larsen) Stevenson. She was born and raised on a farm near Maple Leaf, Iowa where she attended country school until moving to Lime Springs in 1942. Mildred graduated from high school in 1947 and then attended State Teacher’s College, now UNI, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Mildred taught elementary school for many years in Hansel, Fayette and New Hampton, Iowa.
Before moving to the care center in 2010, Mid was an active member of the Lime Springs Methodist Church and the New Hampton Methodist Church. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star and Business and Professional Women (BPW). She also belonged to the Retired Teachers’ Association and Alpha Delta Kappa. In 2010, she was honored as a 50-year member of Eastern Star.
Mildred enjoyed traveling and attended Eastern Star conferences in many different states. She was a member of the Chickasaw County Historical Society and volunteered in the gift shop at the Little Brown Church for more than 20 years. Mildred also liked to share her love of reading with children and conducted story hour for more than twenty years for the Lime Springs Public Library. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, and according to her, “anything country.”
Mildred is survived her brother, Gene, sisters-in-law: Phyllis, Shirley, Mary, and Ann; nephews: Jim (Joanie) Stevenson, Todd (Dawn) Stevenson, and Matt (Erin) Stevenson; nieces: Hollie Kennedy, Laney (Bobby) Frazer, and Christena (Brent) Bowers along with great and great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Harlan, Hollis, Lyle, and Norman and nephew Greg.
