It is reported that Walter Mintey of New Oregon died yesterday morning (Thursday.) He had been out the door, came in, laid down and died. We are without further particulars.

WALTER MINTEY,
Was born in the county Hampshire, England, Jan. 21, 1841, and died in New Oregon, Nov. 20, 1902, aged 61 years 9 months and 29 day.
He came to the United States in 1859, and to Howard county the same year. In 1861 he enlisted in Co. I, 9th Iowa Infantry and was discharged and re-enlisted in 1862 in Co. I, 38th Iowa regiment, serving to the close of the war and honorably discharged. Since then he has visited his native land five times where a brother and sister reside. For 59 years the family ties with four brothers and one sister were unbroken, this being the first death.
He was twice married, his first wife being Mrs. Eliza Arnold, after whose death he married Miss Fanny Offen, who survives him. No children were born to them.

In Memoriam.
WHEREWA: Walter J. Mintey a member of Co. I28th Iowa Infty Vols has joined the bivouac of the dead on fame’s eternal camping ground, we his fellow soldiers and companions-in-arms bear witness that he was a good soldier, always willing to perform his duty under the most trying circumstances cheerfully.
He was present at the occupation of New Madrid Mo., in Dec. 1862 at the siege of Vicksburg 1864, at the taking of Brownsville Texas, Nov. 1863, at the siege of Ft. Morgan in 1864 also in the charge at Ft. Blakely which resulted in the fall of Mobile in 1865, also he was present at the occupation of Galveston Texas in 1865.
He performed his part manfully in the great struggle which freed 400,000 slaves and which brought peace and prosperity to this, the greatest and best country on the ace of the earth.
Our comrade was an adopted citizen but his service was as faithful as though to the manor born. His familiar figure will no longer be seen on our streets. To Him in whose hands are the issues of life and death we say “Thy will be done” We hereby extend our hearty sympathy to the widow and surviving friends of our deceased comrade.
We the undersigned committee recommend that his memorial be spread on the Post records and published in the local papers, and a copy be sent to Mrs. W. J. Mintey.
