A. F. Verback
died at his home in Cresco, Wednesday morning, May 21st, 1902, aged about 79 years. He was of New England birth but had been in the West for many years, coming to this county before the railroad left Conover for Cresco. He owned a large and valuable farm property a few miles north of the city which is being managed by Mr. Otto Bigalk, and the Central House occupied by Joseph Riley and house occupied by Mrs. Augusta Cole. His nephew, W. G. Muse, of Mason City, Ill., came last Saturday, and another nephew, E. B. Huse, of Enfield, N. H., is expected Thursday if the roads are running, also Mr. Chas. Huse, his son. Edgar Verback, a nephew, son of John Verback, of Rock County, Wis., and Mrs. Nellie M. Ransom, a niece are all expected to be here at the funeral which will probably be Friday, the interment In Oak Lawn. The deceased was a peacable{sic}, law abiding citizen who gave his attention exclusively to his own business affairs.

Albert Franklin Verbeck.
Albert Franklin Verbeck was the son of Nathaniel and Merian Tilton Verbeck. He was born in Bradford, Vermont, June 24, 1824. He was the last of seven children, four sons and three daughters.
When a young man he was engaged in the lumber business with his father at Olcotts Falls on the Connecticutt River near Lebanan, N. H. Later he moved to western Pennsylvania, where he was engaged in setting up mill machinery, which was invented by his father.
About 1860 he came west and bought a farm on Rock Prairie, Rock county, Wis. He lived a few years in Chicago and then in Eau Claire, Wis., where he was in the lumber business. He came to Cresco in 1867, where he has since resided. About 1871 he married Miss Carroll of Janesville, Wis. About two years after his marriage Mrs. Verbeck died, leaving two infant sons, both dying in infancy, a few months after their mother. The children and mother are buried at Janesville, Wis.
Mr. Verbeck’s last illness was not long and he died Wednesday morning, May 21, 1902. His nephew, Mr. W. G. Huse wa with him and care for him till the end. His relatives, Mr. E. B. Huse of Enfield, N. H., Mr. and Mrs. Engar Verbeck of Rock vounty, and Mr. and Mrs .M. Ransom were in attendance on the occasion.
Funeral services were held at his late home Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. O. H. Holmes, Interment was in Oak Lawn.
