LOURDES - Linda M. Smith, 50, Lourdes, died Sunday, April 7, 2002 at Regional Health Services of Howard County, Cresco of natural causes.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 11 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Lourdes with Reverend John Hemann, Reverend Peter Bodensteiner and Reverend Robert J. Ament concelebrating the mass. Music for the service was provided by Georgia Schmidt as organist, vocalists Sr. Mary Smith and Jeff Smith and the Our Lady of Lourdes Church Choir. Lectors were Teresa Zeimetz and Teisha Smith. Cassie Smith and Karlie Freidrich presented the offertory gifts. The pall was placed by Linda's husband and children.
Burial was in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery with Allan Smith, Todd Smith, Tim Huegel, Don Flaherty, Adam Roethler and Dan Wacha serving as casket bearers.
Visitation was from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, Elma, where there was a 3 p.m. Rosary and 8 p.m. Scripture Service. Visitation was also an hour prior to services at the church.
Linda Mae Smith was born Nov. 20, 1951 in Elma, the daughter of Nicholas and Lidwina (Busch) Zeimetz. She attended Immaculate Conception Academy, Elma through 10th grade and went on to graduate from Crestwood High School in 1970. She then went to work at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester as a Lab Technician for two years. On Aug. 5, 1972 she was united in marriage to Francis M. Smith at Immaculate Conception Church, Elma. After their marriage the couple resided on the Smith family farm near Lourdes, where they lived all of their married lives. Linda worked at the pharmacy in Elma for a short time. On March 16, 1992 the couple purchased the Roadside Rendezvous, a restaurant in Lourdes that they currently have been operating. Linda enjoyed having her family together. She was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.
Survivors include her husband, Francis M. Smith; four sons, Andy (Penne) Smith, Burlington, Nick (Michelle) Smith, Oskaloosa, Chris Smith and his fiance Kerry Murphy, Davenport, Matthew, Oskaloosa; a daughter, Joni, Lourdes; two granddaughters; five brothers, Roger Zeimetz, Spring Valley, MN, Francis (Zip) Zeimetz,, Elma, Mike Zeimetz, Elma, Nick Zeimetz, Elma and Larry Zeimetz, Denver, CO; nine sisters, Cathy Nosbisch, Stewartville, MN, Marilyn Kiernan, Cedar Rapids, LouAnn Huegel, Alta Vista, Susan Marr, Spring Valley, MN, Marie Smith, Lourdes, Janet Flaherty, Lourdes, Tina Roethler, Alta Vista/ Barb Smith, Elma, and Mary Jo Friedrich, Elma and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Virgil and Tom Zeimetz.
