Services were held for Geraldine Marie Korbel, on Monday, May 20, 2002 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Lourdes, Iowa. The Rev. John Hemann officiated. Eucharistic Minister was Joyce Jirak. Burial was in the church cemetery in Lourdes.
Geraldine Marie Korbel, 74, died on Thursday, May 16, 2002, at her home.
Korbel was born on April 14, 1928 in Howard County, on the farm southwest of Lime Springs, Iowa, the daughter of William and Emma (Orpat) Korbel. She attended the rural school and graduated from Cresco High School. After schooling, she started working as a nurse aide in Cresco, Iowa, Rochester, Minn., she then moved to California to work and eventually moved back to Iowa and worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. While working in Cedar Rapids, she would come back to help farm in the summer. Gerry finally moved to help care for her mother and brother.
Korbel was very religious and thought a lot of her church of which she was a life long member. She was baptized and confirmed in the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Altar and Rosary Society. She was not afraid of working and she made her lawn a priority. She was also fond of her yellow lab dog, Dixie.
Korbel is survived by her cousins and a host of friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother “Bud.”
