Rogers Dec. 22, 1896{?}. Five children were given them, one son dying in infancy. Merl E., Roy R., Georgia and Lyle E., with their mother sit in the shadow of death today.
Mr. Harris came to Iowa in 1859, settling in Winneshiek county, removing to Lime Springs in 1877, and thence to Cresco in 1883, where he has since resided until his death. About a year ago Mr. Harris was thrown from a load of hay and was injured in the head and though it seemed but temporary it doubtless produced the disease which caused his death. Mr. Harris for some time has been the sexton of Oak Lawn Cemetery and has greeted many of the citizens of Cresco at the gate of that beautiful city of the dead, among whom he today will be laid away, awaiting the resurrection moring.{sic} Besides his widow and children there are left to mourn his disease two brothers, Mr. E. L. Harris, of Milbank, S. D., Mr. S. W. Harris, of Cresco, and two sisters, Mrs. Louisa Young, of Milbank, S. D , Mrs. N. J. Rowlee, of Cresco. The family have the sympathy of a large circle of neighbors and acquaintances. The funeral services were held from his late residence on Market street in this city, on Saturday at 1 o’clock, conducted by Rev. P. F. Shaffer, of the Methodist church.
