ELMA -- Paul Block, 64, died Friday, March 16, 2001 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital, Lacrosse, WI of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 20 at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Elma with Reverend Maurice Lind officiating. Konnie Schmidt will be the organist and will accompany those in attendance singing "Amazing Grace", "Rock of Ages" and "How Great Thou Art".
Burial will be at a later date in the Chester Hill Cemetery with Jim Umburger, Terry Fay, Mike Suess, Robert Richard, Robert Houdek and Jeff Young serving as casket bearers.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday, March 19 at Conway Funeral Home, Elma.
Paul David Block was born Jan. 31, 1937 in Waterloo, the son of John and Hannah (Renz) Block. He grew up on a farm near Saratoga and attended country school near his home and later school in Riceville. He was united in marriage to Alvina Mecklenburg in Chester on Feb. 23, 1958. The couple resided in Harmony, MN where he did custom narvest- ing until November of 1979, when they moved to Elma, where he was self-employed in the farm equipment business. He enjoyed reading, going to auction sales and spending time with his friends and family.
Survivors include his wife, Alvina; mother Hannah Block, Elma; 15 children, Dianna Block, La Crosse, WI; Renita (Jack) Tesch, Backus, MN; Suzan (Gary) Strahl, Preston, MN; Andrew (Debra) Block, Orchard; Daniel (Brenda) Block, Elma; Phyllis Barlow, Waterloo; Marsha Loving, Waterloo; Paul Block, Jr., Cedar Falls; Bertha (Jeff) Young, Waterloo; Carol (Steven) Meade, Platte City, MO; Edward Block, Waterloo; Karl Block, Elma; Marie Block, Cresco; Marge Block, Decorah and Margaret Block, Elma; 24 grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis Block, Elma and Richard (Vickie) Block, Elma.
Preceding him in death was his father, John Block.
