CRESCO -- Dan Barta died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001 at Evans Memorial Home, Cresco.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Worship Center, Cresco with Rev. Henry Charipar presiding. Music was provided by Polly Jones as organist accompanying Judy Bartels and Joe
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Cresco with Jym Hitt, Jerry Stussy, Jim Stussy and Todd Larsen as casket bearers.
Daniel Clarence Barta was born on Aug. 18, 1923 near Spillville, the son of Frank and Barbara (Kabela) Barta. He attended schools in Spillville and Jerico. On March 17, 1954, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Eidenschink in Galena, IL. He lived in California a few years before moving back to Iowa and living in New Hampton, Decorah, Cresco and finally Cedar Rapids, where he worked as a cook in a large restaurant. He moved to Arkansas when he retired, but returned to Cresco in the early 80's. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church and the Catholic Workman. He liked to garden, do woodworking and care for his small apple orchard.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon (John) Stussy, Lansing; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Leonard, Cresco; two sisters, Adeline Kovarik, Cresco and Margaret Hruska, Apache Junction, AZ and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Kathryn, in 1995; his parents; five brothers, Julius, Edward, Frank, Emil and August; a sister, Tillie and a brother-in-law, Leonard Kovarik.
