Merinus Verburg.
Merlnus Verburg is of Holland descent, his parents coming from the Netherlands in 1847, and settling at Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he was born Aug. 6, 1863.
He grew to early manhood there and was married in 1883 to Elizabeth Heemstra, whose father was an early Sioux county Iowa, settler, moving there in 1870.
The young couple left Kalamazoo in 1885, going to Sioux county, Iowa, where they lived two years and then returned to Michigan. They remained there until the spring of. 1892 when they went again to Sioux county, soon afterward going to South Dakota, where they lived eight years in Minne¬haha and Aurora counties. They returned to Sioux county for a year, when they came to Howard county, Mr. Verburg purchasing the Geo. L. Moore farm of 221-1/2 acres, located one-half mile east of Chester, the price being $12,000.
Mr. and Mrs. Verburg have five children, Jennie C., nineteen years old, Theodore, who is eighteen, Merinus, sixteen, Albert, fifteen, and Arthur, thirteen.
Mr. Verburg makes a specialty of raising Shorthorn cattle and has some fine stock on his farm.—Chester Herald.

Transcriber's Note: His gravestone in West Lawn Cemetery, Sioux County, Iowa shows the first name spelled Marenus and that he died April 23, 1930
