MHI [State Hospital] Cemetery is a separate cemetery from Forest Home Cemetery. However, it is located adjacent to Forest Home and one must access MHI burials by entering the main gate of Forest Home and driving to the east. There is not a separate entrance to the MHI Cemetery.

Hundreds of people are buried in the MHI Cemetery, nearly all in unmarked graves. To date, there is not a complete published list of MHI burials. Because of privacy laws, the State of Iowa has kept records sealed. Lists of MHI Cemetery burials on iagenweb.org and findagrave.com are from submissions by family descendants and researchers.
