John Dill Hulme, 83, of Washington, formerly of Olds, died Tuesday August 10, 2004 at 4:30 P.M. at the Halcyon House in Washington where he had been a resident for the past five years. Visitation began after 2:00 P.M. Friday at the Oldson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday evening. Funeral services were held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the Memorial Chapel with Pastor Charles Visser officiating. Burial was in Finley Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church and to the Gideons International in his memory.

He was born January 13, 1921 in Henry County, Iowa, the son of Samuel S. and Verna Eicher Hulme. He married Frances R. Wittrig on December 26, 1940 in Wayland. She preceded him in death November of 1991.

John farmed southeast of Wayland for many years before beginning his career as a livestock feed and seed salesman. He moved his family from the farm to Olds in 1964 after which he spent his remaining working years before retirement at Bluebird Manufacturing in Mt. Pleasant.

He was a member of the Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church in Wayland where he served many years as an Adult Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member of the Olds Lions Club and a Lifetime Member of Gideons International.

He is survived by three daughters, Joan (David) Swift, Rolling Meadows, Illinois; Jalaine (Stephen) Sandberg, Rockford, Illinois, and Judy (Daniel) Campbell, Mt. Pleasant; one son, Hiram Howard (Nancy) Hulme of Rockford, Illinois; a son-in-law Leonard (Dwanna) Schantz of West Burlington; one sister, Mary Ruth Seberg, Iowa City, and one brother, Richard E. (Kathy) Hulme of Florida. Eleven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his wife Frances, one daughter, Jacqueline Ann Schantz, and a grandson, Phillip Anthony Schantz.
