J. A. Kauffman - In Real Estate Business for Many Years

Another prominent and well liked man of the Wayland community was taken quite suddenly the past week. There was seldom a day that John A. Kauffman was not seen on the streets of Wayland . John was a very active man in the real estate business here for a number of years. The community of Wayland will keenly feel the loss of Mr. Kauffman, not alone because we won't see him on the streets but also because his job will be a hard one to replace.

Obituary:

John A. Kauffman, son of Christian and Elizabeth Miller Kauffman, was born October 3, 1876, on a farm north of Wayland, Iowa and passed away at his home here on December 29, 1945 at the age of sixty-nine years, two months, and 26 days. Though he had been in failing health for some years,he had been able to carry on his business and visit with friends until the day prior to his passing. A heart attack, from which he could not rally, came suddenly, Friday evening, resulting in death in a few hours.

On December 20, 1900, he was united in marriage to Alice Allender. To this union was born one son, Harry. John lived in the Wayland community all his life. His early years were spent in farming. Later he moved to Wayland where for many years prior to his death, he was in the real estate business.

Surviving are his wife, Alice, son, Harry and daughter-in-law, Thelma, two sisters, Mrs. Will Allen and Mrs. Katie Johnson, three brothers, Will, Edward, and Homer, all of Wayland. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.

He was a kind and loving husband and father, always understanding and thoughtful of others and had a host of friends.

Services were held at the Stacy Funeral Homer here on Monday at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. R. D. Harper of the Methodist Church in charge. Burial took place at the Wayland Cemetery.
