OBITUARY - Winfield Beacon/Wayland News
Eldred Earl Berkshire, 90, of Wayland, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at Parkview Retirement Home. A memorial service will be at Wayland Mennonite Church at a later date. The body has been cremated and burial was in North Hill Cemetery in Wayland. A memorial has been established for North Hill Cemetery and contributions may be sent to Jean Roth. Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Berkshire was born March 28, 1919 in Washington County, the son of Earl and Hazel Leffler Berkshire. He married Marie Kauffman in September 1942. She preceded him in death on June 4, 1988. He was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School and had degrees from Chaffey Junior College in Ontario, California, the University of Northern Iowa, and the University of Iowa. He also attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. He taught at Eldora, Oakville, Fairfield and was a superintendent at Wayland before moving to Burlington in 1950. He was an elementary principal in the Burlington School District from 1950 to 1980 when he retired. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Stephen Berkshire of Austin, Arkansas, and a granddaughter.
