Elizabeth Shirey was born at Zenia, Ohio, February 3rd, 1840. At the age 12 she came with her parents to Iowa. She attended school at Crawfordsville and at Howe's Academy, Mt. Pleasant Iowa.

On November 8th, 1865, she was married to Daniel F. Huston, to which union 3 children were born: Mary Margaret who died in infancy, Daniel W., and J. Edward, who reside in Winfield.

For some time the family resided at Ainsworth, Iowa, where the husband, Daniel F. Huston, died March 16th, 1874, leaving to the mother the care of the two children, aged respectfully 4 and 6 years.

After the death of Mr. Huston, with her children she moved to Crawfordsville, remaining two years, and from thence to Winfield where she has since resided. ln the days of her young womanhood she united with the Presbyterian church of Crawfordsville and upon coming to Winfield brought her letter with her, uniting with the Presbyterian church of this place by certificate June 30, 1877.

Last August there came to herself, her family and her friends the sad conviction that she was afflicted with that dread disease, dropsy. Seven weeks ago she was taken to the Burlington Hospital where medical skill and the ministry of loving, tender hands, did all that could be done to bring to her relief and make her closing days comfortable.

She passed away Monday evening, October 17th, at 5:20, making her at the time of her death 64 years, 8 months and 14 days of age.

Beside her two sons she leaves one brother, Leonard M. Shirey, and one grand-daughter, Miss Hazel Huston, to mourn her loss.

In the Asbury cemetery in Wayne township, they laid her to rest by the side of those dear to her heart and as the falling leaves which mark the summer's end, piled by the winds over her last resting place, hiding from sight the new-turned turf, the example of her life and deeds will live long in the hearts made sad by her "going home." To the bereaved sons, grand-daughter and brother, the sympathy of a vast number of friends is extended.
